ASEC Dinner & Dance / Finals

December 6, 2006 by Maria Christina

Hey everyone!

I’m very sorry I haven’t been able to update you on what’s going on here at UW… But, first thing is first. I just want to talk about ASEC’s Dinner & Dance the other night. It was a semi formal event which consisted of ‘hanging out’ with others in Accounting (I’m CFM… so I count! haha).  It was a lot of fun. There was the social part at the beginning where we got to talk to everyone that was there, then there was dinner, and then… SALSA LESSONS! haha It was great!
The instructors were making it very fun and they were hilarious! Overall, very good night. I just wanted to say GREAT JOB to everyone who made that event possible! I had a lot of fun.

Okay… finals… yes, they are approaching very fast! I had my last mid term on Nov 20th. My first final exam is THIS FRIDAY! Oh well. I’ll live! But, to all of you in grade 12 (or even younger) reading this, it is VERY important when you get to your post-secondary studies to eat well, exercise, socialize, and SLEEP. They have been emphasizing this at UW very early (I believe since frosh week). So, please listen to them because it’s all true! Well, I best be going back to this thing called studying…

My 18th Birthday

November 21, 2006 by Maria Christina

Hey everyone! I hope you all had a great weekend! I know I did!
On Nov 17th, I turned 18!!! Yay finally I’m an ‘official’ adult. Oh no… haha.
A few friends from back home (Markham) came up for the weekend. It was awesome! Chris let us use his res to bake our cake… we do this every year! haha. It looked interesting, but it tasted so good. We had a bunch of people come over and just hang out. I ordered some pizza for everyone and we ate the beautiful cake we made!
We got many compliments. This one guy who didn’t even like chocolate enjoyed out CHOCOLATE cake!
Basically, our cake was chocolate, with icing and smarties!

Anywho, my weekend was awesome, I’ll post pictures as soon as I get them!

DECA & Algebra Midterm #2

November 14, 2006 by Maria Christina

On Saturday, November 11th, I was at RCH (engineering building) from 8 am – 7 pm. Why would I do that? You may ask. Well, it was the UW DECA Inhouse.
I was put into the Entrepeneur category. I competed for: TELUS and INFUSION ANGELS. My team mates were really nice and we worked well together.
For TELUS, we came 2nd and for INFUSION ANGELS we came first!
I definatly had some fun. Free stuff was given/raffled off (I didn’t get anything though). But I highly recommend joining DECA!
When I get pictures from DECA, I’ll post them up!

Today I had my 2nd Algebra mid term. It wasn’t all that bad. Some questions were a bit funny, but other than that, all went well. A tip from myself to you guys: PLEASE DON’T PROCRASTINATE and PLEASE GO TO CLASS! haha I had to study so hard for a week just to catch up, understand, and execute what I’ve learned!

Hope you all had a great weekend!

The Importance of Facebook…

November 10, 2006 by Maria Christina

At the moment, nothing too interesting is happening. So I thought I’d give you all a heads up on one of the trendiest things going on at ALL Universities… FACEBOOK!

Okay, so some of you may (or may not) know about this website: Facebook.
It’s a great way to keep in touch with everyone in University (or even highschool). I know as soon as I was able to access mywaterloo e-mail account, I signed up and already a bunch of my friends were on it! But now, facebook has changed so that even if you don’t have your university e-mail up and running yet, you can still sign up and then later join that University network.

Some features
Profile: Your profile can be searched by anyone, but you can control who can see anything in it. You can enable it to your friends only, people in your Network, or everyone can see it. In this section, you can upload photo’s, make photo albums, your “wall” can be posted on by your friends, and so much more.
Photo’s: When you post pictures, it’ll show up as pictures you tagged yourself in. However, when others ‘tag’ you in their photo’s, it’s also shown in your pictures on YOUR profile!
News Feed: Okay, this is the one feature NO ONE likes! It tells you everything that your friends on your list have done. Such as who’ve they added as friends, who posted on their wall, who added new pictures, exc…exc…
Groups: You can create or join as many groups as you wish! Groups are basically along the lines of common interests. I’m apart of many. Some examples are: Residence Council, The University Of Waterloo, CFM 2011 @UW, exc… It’s an awesome way to talk to others with the same interests as you.
Events: You can host an event and send people invitations over facebook! Also, if you are invited to an event, you can invite others (if the host allows this feature).

So, that’s the basic ‘jist’ of facebook. If you join, and have any questions about UW, don’t hesitate to add me! I’ll try to be a  useful source of information!

Happy Halloween!!

November 2, 2006 by Maria Christina

Hey everyone!
I hope you all had a GREAT Halloween!
I just thought I’d talk about the Haunted House and the Bomber all ages costume party!

Haunted House (Oct 30th)
So, Rez council put together a Haunted House in Village 1 North 1. It went from 8-10 and we had over 200 people pass through! It was awesome! It was actually quite scary! It took a good 2 hours to get ready and everyone involved was great! We had a lot of fun putting everything together, running it, and even cleaning up!
Everyone pulled their weight and we even had a few people from outside of council help us out! It was great! I was so happy with everything we accomplished that night. It seemed as if this year would be a lot of fun! I heard a lot of good things when I asked people about it later on. So I’m very happy!

Bomber (Oct 31st)
So, last night there was an All Ages Costume Party going on at the Bomber! It was a lot of fun! Doors opened around 9 pm and it went late into the night. The music was awesome, the people there were a lot of fun, and Rez council was very pumped that everything went well!
They ended up opening the patio out back to let in more people. I was very happy everything turned out well (weather included). Rez council got to have a little dance off. It was a lot of fun!

I hope everyone had a great Halloween! Don’t have TOO much candy!

Poster Child & Rez Council

October 27, 2006 by Maria Christina

So, I have 2 mid terms left. Algebra and Calculus… #2’s. haha This week has been really wicked so far though. Rez Council events for Halloween, which I helped organize, going on. Random CFM things going on as well.

Poster Child
Today I went to DC and met up with my program manager, Colleen, for a photo shoot. These photos were being used for the CFM poster. I was very excited! The first picture was a single picture of myself in a suit and the second one was a group shot. It was a lot of fun! However, by me saying the first and second photo, I mean there was a total of 90+ pictures taken. The photographer was amazing! He was really nice and made everything look really good. I’m excited to see how everything turns out. Now I know Colleen is probably going to be reading this at one point or another, so let’s mention her! haha Colleen is the awesome manager of my program. She knows everything about everyone in CFM. Scary? Nah… Anywho, she looked like she had fun during our photo taking.

Halloween
Rez Council has been organizing events for Halloween. So far we’ve had a pumpkin carving competition, Dress your Don (An upper year student who acts like your “cool aunt/uncle” while you live in rez), Movie night, exc…
At the moment, we’re getting a Haunted House ready and getting ready for our first All Ages event at Bomber (on-campus pub). It should be a lot of fun! When it’s all over, I’ll definatly let you know how everything went!

Thanksgiving, Mid term update, Res council update

October 18, 2006 by Maria Christina

Hey everyone,

I went home for thankgiving and it was amazing! On the friday, I went out with the girls (a.k.a – the best friends). I went to my grandmothers house for a nice thankgiving meal on the Saturday. On the Monday, I went to my aunts for, yet another, thanksgiving meal! I was definatly stuffed by the end of all that eating. I ended up coming back on the Monday night.

So far, I’ve done 2, out of my 7, mid terms: Calculus(MATH 137) and Algebra(MATH 135) #1 (I have two each for those classes).
All I’ve got to say is… most of us found our mid-term easier than our assignments. Which, in general, is a relatively good thing! There were, of course, a few tricky questions out to get us all, but in the end, we did what we had to do. We were definatly given enough time; so essentially, most of us finished all the questions.

Res Council… sooo much fun! Being an event leader is awesome! I’m in charge of Halloween Events. The things we’re setting up are: Dress your Don, Door Decorating Contest, Movie Night, Food Drive, Haunted House, and Bomber All Ages Costume Party! It’s going to be awesome! So for all you current students… you guys have got to come! It’s going to be a lot of fun! There are prizes and everything.

Anywho, that’s my update on life here at UW.

See you all soon!

P.S- Campus Rec classes are awesome! They keep me so sane during the stressful times (a hem… right now).

Mid-Terms

October 8, 2006 by Maria Christina

And so it begins… my first mid-terms at University. I got 6 mid terms coming up.

My first one will be Calculus on Tuesday, October 10th. I can’t even enjoy my Thanksgiving at home. Oh well.
I’ve got about 2 mid-terms a week for the next month. They are usually during the beginning and end of the week. So at least I get ample time for study time in between. I, of course, will be stressing, but who doesn’t?! haha
Well I wish everyone well on their mid-terms and make sure you all get enough sleep (if only I listened to my own advice!)!

Have a great Thanksgiving everyone! I’m back to studying…

My weekend!

October 1, 2006 by Maria Christina

Hey everyone!
So this weekend was very fun. But let’s start from thursday…

Thursday: pulled my first allnighter. In short: NEVER DO IT! haha It was a horrible experience. Just… don’t do it - trust me.

Friday: after a lot of sleep to catch up on, I start not to feel very well. So I go back to bed. Then I woke up and I was really hungry, so my friend and I went for some CAMPUS PIZZA! That pizza is very good. Very addicting!

Saturday: Okay. This was my favorite day! So I am a part of the Executive Residence Council. My position is an Event Leader. We basically help organize and set up events and such. We had our ‘retreat’ on Saturday and it was awesome!
A lot of things were happening on Saturday. I was a touch disappointed that I couldn’t go to everything, but I think the Residence Council retreat was worth it! There was Homecoming (football: Waterloo vs Laurier) and the UW Expo was here.

Sunday: Well, Sunday hasn’t started yet. However, I already know what I’m going to do: work! I have to work on Algebra, Accounting, and Computer Science. I found out my mid term schedule and its quite brutal!
I have 6 mid terms… Algebra has 2. *sigh* Oh well!
Well that’s my weekend! See you all later!

Come back soon!

Recreation Classes

September 27, 2006 by Maria Christina

Hey everyone!
I just thought I’d write a post just telling you how much fun I had at my Campus Recreation classes this week. It was hard to decide what to take because there are so many interesting things that I think I’d be interested in! So I narrowed it down to 2 classes: Hip-Hop and Stretch.
My instructor for Hip-Hop is a cool guy. He is an amazing dancer, so I feel quite confident being in his class. I’ve taken dance before, so I was a bit worried about taking it with a student instructor, but so far so good. I’ll know I’ll learn new things.
My instructor for my Stretch class is amazing! She explains everything you need to know while stretching and explains how the things SHOULD feel. I’ve also been in many stretch classes and I’ve been stretched to the max, so it’s always important to know you’re doing it correctly.
So… so far the classes are great and I’m enjoying it very much! I would definatly recommend others taking classes. I’ve also heard the other classes like Pop Ballet and Salsa are fun!
I’ll let you know how the classes continue to go as the term goes on.

Come back soon!
