Summer & Math Orientation Leader Training

June 23, 2007

Hey everyone!

Well I hope everything is going well for everyone. I wish all the grade 12’s who are graduating soon good luck in whatever they do! Hope you all had/have an amazing prom night! I loved mine! It was a lot of fun!

Summer
I know I’m loving summer right now. Although, it may seem odd. I am currently on my co-op term, completing PD2, and taking ENGL210F as a Distance Education class. But nonetheless… still awesome! I have plans for the Canada Day long weekend! I can’t wait! I’m heading to Niagara Falls (once again) and staying there for a few days. I believe some go carting has been planned, as well as beach time! I can’t wait! I am also cheering again for a team called the PCT Cobras. They are a team in Mississauga. I was on their senior all girl team when I was in grade 12. Now I am on their open team (18+). So far, practices have been a lot of fun! Getting to know a lot of people and they’re awesome.

Math Orientation Leader Training

Oh dear… where to begin. I have 2 more session to complete, I’ve completed 2 already, and have been First Aid Certified for all of those participating in the Math Orienation in September. I look forward to seeing you all there. Please don’t make me use my First Aid Training though! :) Ok! So, tomorrow, I have a Math Leader Retreat. So I am heading up to Waterloo tomorrow for a day with ALL Math leaders. I get to find out what I’ll be doing during Orientation. I’m looking forward to finding out! Once I know, I’ll definitely post it on here.

First Year
For those of you who still need some questions answered, please feel free to comment on here and I will reply via e-mail. So make sure you leave your e-mail address! I have already been contacted by several people. I have replied and kept in contact with them.
For those of you in Computing and Financial Management next year, definitely send me an e-mail. CFM students are relatively close since there are so few of us. So whether you like it or not, you’ll be meeting all the 2nd years soon.
If anyone has questions about the First Year Living Learning Community, also feel free to e-mail me. I was in the LLC in my first year and I will be in the UPPER YEAR LLC next year.

Well, I look forward to seeing you all soon! Trust me, your summer will fly by so quickly. Make sure you start preparing for moving out asap. Buy things that you need little bits at a time. Make sure you find out the residence you’ll be in as well before doing this. Some residences allow you to bring things while others do not. Please keep that in mind.

I will be continuously posting things on here until September. I am sure they will be choosing new bloggers soon (if they haven’t begun so already).

Co-op, Summer, Math Orientation

May 22, 2007

Hey everyone,

Hope you’re all having a great time. Sorry that it’s been so long since I’ve posted last.
I hope all of those University students are having a great summer so far, or, if you’re at UW in Stream 4, having a good term. But for you highschool students, I hope you’re all having a great time! The time is coming for all of you to decide which University/College you will be attending and/or which program you want to be in. This is not an easy task, so think long and hard. I’m sure you’ll all make the right decision in the end.

Co-op
What can I say? So far so good. The commute is a bit of a mission, but other than that, I don’t mind at all. It’s a great location, the people are great, and I get to learn things on a daily basis.

Summer Plans
This summer I do not have very much planned. There will definitely be some wonderland trips, going out with the friends, beaches, and whatever else comes up! Basically… nothing is set as of yet.

Orientation Week
Also known as: Frosh Week. I will be a Math Orientation leader. So all of you fellow mathies, make sure you say hi! Now I know some of you who may not have read my blogs before may be asking, why aren’t you an ARTS leader? You ARE the ARTS blogger. Well… yes and no. I’m going to have to refer you to my very FIRST blog entry. So, once you read that, you’ll understand. Training begins for me in 2 weeks. So once I know what my responsibilities are that week, I’ll let you know. Make sure you come say hi though!

Well that’s all I’ve got for you guys at the moment. I will be writing more though! So make sure that you keep on checking out my blog for any new posts! Also, for those of you grade 12’s, if you have any questions, please feel free to send me a comment. I will reply asap. I’ve already received a few. Also, keep posted for new pictures to be uploaded!

Finals, Co-op, & Summer

April 23, 2007

Hey everyone! Well…I have finally finished my finals and I am almost done 1st year. The last part of my first year experience will be my co-op term. I have managed to obtain a position at Manulife Financial for the next 4 months in Toronto. So it should be a lot of fun! I am out of residence and I’m back home! Definitely feels weird. But over all, it’s been great! For those of you going to university next year, I wish you the best of luck! Remember that you’re there to study, but once in awhile, treat yourself and go out!

Finals
Wow… what can I say… they were tricky! Some were better than others.

Co-op
I’ll be working in Toronto at Manulife Financial. I did NOT find this job through jobmine (UW’s job search system). I found the job on my own and just had it approved for my co-op term.

Summer
I have PD2 and a Distance Education course going on this summer during my co-op term. This should be interesting. My DE course is ENGL210F. PD2 is what all math students have to take for co-op purposes.

Remember to keep checking the blog! I’ll be posting pictures and posting this summer! If any of you have any questions just leave a comment! I’ll get back to you asap. For those of you going into CFM… remember to say hi! I’ll be seeing you around and we’ll definitely be planning socials so all the CFM students can get to know eachother (regardless of year).

Charity Ball, Voting, Final Exams/Residence, and Co-op

March 28, 2007

Hey everyone! Sorry about the lack of posts. I’ve been quite busy. Here are a few things that have either happened or are happening, or going to happening soon!

CHARITY BALL
This years Charity Ball was a HUGE success. It was located at the Waterloo Inn and it was great! We had roses on sale, a professional photographer, an amazing selection of food, a great committee putting this together, as well as two great charities that we were donating to: LiveStrong and Free the Children. There are pictures being posted right now! So if you want to take a look, there is a link at the bottom of the page.

VOTING
Well, there are two things going on right now in the University of Waterloo. Math Society is deciding whether or not to raise the Math fee by $2 to improve student spacing (ie: Comfy Lounge) and FEDS is trying to decide whether or not to implement a Universal Bus Pass. There are flyers going around EVERYWHERE supporting YES and NO to both of these issues. The voting takes place from March 28th – March 31st. Both sides have good points being made about the pro’s and con’s to each of these decisions. But again, we, the students, must vote. If you want to read about these two referendum’s, please go to: http://www.vote.feds.ca.

FINALS/Residence
So, my final exams are coming up. I have the following exam dates:
April 9th, April 10th, April 11th, April 13th, and April 18th. I am officially done and can move back home on April 18th/19th. We are again given 24hours to move from residence.
I will be living in UWP next year as an upper year student. I will also be in the living learning community once agian. I do not know my roommates as of yet, but so far they seem like nice people.

CO-OP
This summer, I will be on my co-op term. I will still be writing on here. So don’t think I’m gone just yet! For those of you who read my posts and have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

Have a great week everyone!

Reading Week

February 21, 2007

Hey everyone!
Well I hope everything is going well. Here are a few things that have been going on since last time…

Reading Week
I’m on my reading week from February 19th-February 23rd and so far it’s been good. I’ve been catching up on some work, working on assignments, studying for some mid terms, and making some highschool visits. I have yet to hang out with my friends, but we will be getting together soon! I will definitely be taking some pictures and posting them here!

Posters for CFM
The posters for my program are now done. For those of you who have read my blog earlier, you would know that I am on the poster for my program. It was an amazing experience. I finally got the pictures to post online and they are online! If I can, I will try to post the picture of the actual poster for CFM.

Impact
I was able to obtain a position in Impact. It is a student run organization that promotes student entrepreneurship. I find it quite interesting and I hopefully will be able to expand my knowledge in the Information Technology/Services area.

Charity Ball
Saturday, March 24th, there will be the annual Charity Ball. This is being organized by Residence Council and will be at the Waterloo Inn. All profits will be going towards two extraordinary charities: LiveStrong and Free The Children. The event will include a dinner or non-dinner option. This is going to be an amazing night! I will definitely be taking and posting pictures regarding this! Don’t forget to check out my pictures!

Anywho, on another note, I can’t wait until I am able to see Chris again. He is on co-op at the moment and I get to see him, on average, every two weeks. I’ve been taking a few visits to go see him in Niagara and I got to finally go on a Ferris Wheel! I’ve never been on one before! It was heated! It was so much fun! I have some pictures I’ve just recently posted online!

Well, I better get going now. I’ve got to study for my CS mid term which is on Monday.
Hope you all have a great week!

Already…

January 25, 2007

Hey everyone! I haven’t been able to write much. But, I’m taking time off from studying for my econ101 mid term to write this! We all need our study breaks! They’re important!
Well, let’s see what’s been going on…

Co-Op
I’ve just begun the co-op process. I’ve began my PD1 and applying to jobs on Jobmine. So far, so good. Nothing overly difficult and it seems that everything is in good order. I’ll write more as time goes on.

DECA
This past weekend I was in Toronto for the DECA U provincials. It was a lot of fun. Queens and Western basically won the competition in almost every category, but Waterloo did win some things! Yay! We arrived on the friday, checked into the hotel, went to the opening ceremonies, wrote the written part of the competition, and then UW DECA went out to eat! On the Saturday, there was the case competition. I was in Apparal and Accessories, as well as Human Resource Management. On the Saturday night, we had our DECA social at a night club in Toronto. It was a lot of fun. On the Sunday, we woke up, checked out of the hotel, and I waited for my parents to pick me up and drive me back to Waterloo. Over all, I met new people and made some new friends (we now talk via Facebook/MSN).

2nd Term
Well, second term has begun, and it’s not as scary as last term. I mean, at least this term I can breathe… okay, not really! haha But still. I’m familiar with the University and the people and I now know how serious I have to take school. So when you get here, work hard right away!

I’ll be around on Campus Day (March 13th) if any of you need me, just find me! I wish all of you in highschool good luck on your exams and have a great 2nd semester!

Happy New Year!!!

January 2, 2007

Hey everyone! I hope you guys had an amazing New Years. I know I did! I went to Niagara Falls and went to the concert there. The falls, the city, and the fireworks were amazing! Foreigner was playing there and it was great! The other acts that played were also great! Overall, I had an excellent time. I also met some new, cool people. Now it is 2007! I hope everyone had a great start to their 2007 year today. Tomorrow I’m going back to residence and school begins on the 3rd. I know a few other universities start on the 8th, but not Waterloo. haha. This means the interview process will be beginning for me as I am a stream 8 co-op student. Wish me luck! I’ll definitely be keeping you updating on what’s going on here!

See you!

Home Sweet Home

December 23, 2006

Hey everyone! I hope everyone is excited for Christmas! I know I am! Finals are done and I am finally home! Exams were… an interesting experience. I definitely now know what I need to improve on for next term. I passed the ELPE! Yay! And I’ll be finding out my marks tomorrow on Quest. This entry will be short, as it is already late (or early… however you look at it). However, I would love to wish everyone a Merry Christmas! I hope all is well and I wish you all the best holidays!

Have a GREAT Christmas!

And so it begins…

December 9, 2006

Hey everyone! I hope all is well and that highschool, college, or university is treating you well. For those of you in college or university, you probably understand the title: And so it begins… FINALS that is.

ELPE
On Thursday, December 7th, I had to write the ELPE (English Language Proficiency Exam). Basically, you get 50 minutes to choose one of two topics given, and you write a 4-5 paragraph (minimum) essay. This exam is given out multiple times throughout the year. I know a few people who failed it the first time and retook it again when I wrote it. But, if you fail, you can rewrite it, and you must pass it by a certain academic time (ie: a certain term).

Finals
And so they begin… I had my very first exam on Friday, December 8th. It was for my Management class (AFM 131). It went from 12:30-3:00 pm. It had several components. The majority of the exam was multiple choice. You may be thinking: YES! But please stop. haha The multiple choice questions were quite tricky. However, I finished every question and didn’t leave anything blank. So this is what my exam schedule is looking like:

ELPE: Thursday, December 7th, 2006.
AFM 131: Friday, December 8th, 2006.
MATH 137: Wednesday, December 13th, 2006.
AFM 101: Thursday, December 14th, 2006.
CS 125: Friday, December 15th, 2006.
MATH 135: Wednesday, December 20th, 2006.

By the way, in case you’re wondering, we have to move out of residence 24 hours after our last final exam. Those of you going into stream 4, you have to unpack everything and leave. For stream 8 people, we just pack whatever we need, and leave the room as it is until we come back after New Years.

Well… Hopefully all will be well for finals. I’ll be updating you on what’s going on whenever I get a chance!

Have a great weekend!
-Maria Christina
