Recreation Classes

September 27, 2006

Hey everyone!
I just thought I’d write a post just telling you how much fun I had at my Campus Recreation classes this week. It was hard to decide what to take because there are so many interesting things that I think I’d be interested in! So I narrowed it down to 2 classes: Hip-Hop and Stretch.
My instructor for Hip-Hop is a cool guy. He is an amazing dancer, so I feel quite confident being in his class. I’ve taken dance before, so I was a bit worried about taking it with a student instructor, but so far so good. I’ll know I’ll learn new things.
My instructor for my Stretch class is amazing! She explains everything you need to know while stretching and explains how the things SHOULD feel. I’ve also been in many stretch classes and I’ve been stretched to the max, so it’s always important to know you’re doing it correctly.
So… so far the classes are great and I’m enjoying it very much! I would definatly recommend others taking classes. I’ve also heard the other classes like Pop Ballet and Salsa are fun!
I’ll let you know how the classes continue to go as the term goes on.

Come back soon!

My First Visit Back Home

September 25, 2006

So I went home this weekend. This was the first time I’ve been home since moving into residence. I got to eat some good home cooked food and I got to see my family and friends that I haven’t seen in a little while. I also went to the mall and movies. It was a lot of fun.

I got home around 3:30 pm on Friday. I got to hang out with my parents and brothers, and I got to see my bird again! On the Saturday, I woke up late (for once), I went to the mall and movies. When I got back home, I started working on my assignments and began to read once again. It just never ends *sigh*. Oh well.
Today my parents took me back and I got here around 12:30 pm. We went to eat some lunch at Kelsey’s, went shopping, and then I went back to my residence. I then began to read my Accounting text and I began to work on my Computer Science assignment.

That was my weekend. Now… back to this Computer Science…

My first few weeks at University…

September 21, 2006

Hey everyone! I am Maria Christina and I am a first year Computing and Financial Management student. Over the year, you’ll be able to read about my first year experiences right on this very page! So, let’s go through this one part at a time…

My Residence
I got to move in two days earlier than I was supposed to because I got a job as an Residence Computer Consultant (RCC). I moved in on the friday, had training on the saturday, and when people moved in on Sunday and Monday, I helped them with their internet connections. I’m also in the first Living Learning Community. It is basically a community of students in the Accountancy programs all living near each other. I’m living in Village 1 (V1 — where the Living Learning Community is located) and I LOVE it here. The people in my residence are amazing and my don is really cool!

My Program
My program is one of the two VPA programs at
Waterloo. This just means that we don’t belong to just one faculty, but two! I am in the Faculty of Arts AND Math.

FROSH 2006
Frosh was amazing! It was a lot of fun. The most memorable days of frosh were, of course,
Monte Carlo and Toga! My toga was made out of Waterloo Warrior bandana’s they gave out earlier in the morning. It was wicked! I also really liked the last day of Math frosh. It was a scavenger hunt that started at 8 and went to midnight. My frosh leaders were amazing!

1st Week of Classes
Okay, so, not as scary as I thought! I have Calculus, Algebra, Computer Science, Accounting, and Management, and each of my professors are really good! The only thing I’m not enjoying right now is the massive amounts of walking.

Getting Involved
I wasn’t too sure what I wanted to do while on campus. I didn’t just want to study and stay in my residence all day. So I joined two recreation programs: Hip Hop and Stretch classes. I’ve danced before and I used to be a cheerleader throughout highschool. So I thought I’d take things in that general area since I enjoy it so much.

So far that’s what has been going on for me here at UW. Come back soon!
